Wheat Harvest Has Begun

Anyone in Kansas right now surely sees how Kansas earned its nickname “The Wheat State.” Along vast stretches of roadway, for as far as the eye can see, all you see is wheat in its rich golden color.

The custom cutters (wheat harvesters) have converged upon Kansas to assist in getting the wheat from the fields to the storage elevators at its prime. Every farmer prays their fields are finished before the next hail storm. Every custom cutter prays their equipment won’t become stuck in mud if it rains.

When you’re staying with us during the next week or so, you will see a rather packed RV park. The extra manpower required to harvest the wheat is a necessity for our agricultural community. We still have room for the vacationers, to whom we cater to all year long, but it’s truly wise to call ahead since available camp sites are more limited.

These crews work long, hard hours in extreme heat to bring in America’s wheat. High Plains Camping wishes a SAFE HARVEST to all of our harvesting friends.

Vacationers who want to learn more about the wheat harvest can ask us in the office. We might be able to get you connected with a harvester who will let you take pictures of their combines & vehicles.

Please understand that we spent the first few years here making adjustments, and the crews who stay with us have been selected because they also understand that we are a camping resort for the overnight traveler. They respect our business and our other guests.
