Rec & Relaxation Sunflower Barn

My apology. Somehow I’ve messed up the flow of the pictures, but surely you can tell which ones are the “after” shots. In the coming days I’ll see if I can fix my errors here, but in the meantime here are the before, during, & after shots … all mixed together.

MAY 15, 2009:  In the middle of the RV park is a large old rustic barn. It’s had many roles over the 40-some years since it was moved to this property, such as storage area, a game room, and a rental hall for parties.

In more recent years it was a place for RV rallies to meet, mingle, dance, eat, and congregate. With a very holey roof, the facility was challenging to clean, so we cleaned for a short event, then closed it up until the next short event. Rainwater and dirt were constant issues.

Earlier in ’09 we were finally able to give it a new roof. That opened up new possibilities. We posted on this blog that we were seeking ideas for uses of this wonderful old barn.

Today, 5/15,  the barn is empty. Every cotton-pickin’ thing has been hauled outside. Tomorrow the barn will be thoroughly washed:  ceiling, hayloft, rafters, walls, floor.

Once it’s had ample drying time, we’ll clean every thing that has been placed outside (tables, chairs, cabinets, & decorations), and then finally redecorate the barn.

If all goes (aka “God willing”), come Tuesday 5/19/09, the Rec & Relaxation Sunflower Barn will have its grand opening. The dart board will be ready, card tables will be ready for your game, jigsaw puzzles will be inviting you in, other games will be setting around, and some tables & chairs will be arranged for small groups to congregate out of the wind and weather.

Remember, we aim to give people an exceptional overnight facility for their enjoyment as they journey to their vacation destination. I hope this new feature will produce  many good memories for our guests.

Stay tuned for more updates as the next few days unfold. I’ll add them to the bottom of this posting.

MAY 16, 2009:  The barn is clean. Now it’s time to let it dry, and then I’ll mop it once more. If all goes well tomorrow, all of the normal contents will be cleaned and put back inside.

I’ll take more pix tomorrow.

MAY 18, 2009:  OK, so I didn’t take pictures the next day, nor did I write in this post. I worked a lot but found my way to the hot tub afterward and that was the end of my day!

Today I tried to find time to decorate but Murphy’s Law kept finding me. It’s my current plan to finish the barn by tomorrow night, and I hope to have great pix to show you.

MAY 19, 2009:  Let the Rec & Relaxation BEGIN!  The Sunflower Barn is ready for its debut tomorrow. I’ll continue to tinker on decorating ideas over the coming weeks, but it’s now fit for recreation & relaxation.

No pix for you  because I was too weary tonight when it was finished. I’ll do better for you tomorrow.

MAY 20, 2009:  It’s officially open and in use! High Plains Camping is delighted to annouce the opening of the Rec & Relaxation Sunflower Barn. It is located in a central location to all RV & tent sites, and it’s open days & evenings for all who are camping with us.

We have a few games, several tables, and it’s all protected from the winds that typically keep you from sitting under your awning while you stay with us.

Your customers are coming into my antique store and I’m hearing them comment on what a great Barn you have! You’re definitely making them “happy campers!”
