Times Have Changed … And So Have We!

Our blog is new for 2009, and with it I’m hearing many people say they really had no idea what High Plains Camping was all about before we began blogging. They also believe I’ve been really busy making many changes. Truth be known, the changes have been taking place every year (basically every day) since becoming the owner in 2002.

To list all the changes since 2002, I would exhaust myself reliving the challenges we’ve tackled, but I’m very excited about the changes of just this year. Here’s what’s really new at this overnight camping spot that likes to give you an enjoyable experience as you journey to your vacation destination (some of these are still be implemented as we lead up to the Memorial Day kick off of the big travel season):

  • Spacious double-headed shower facilities, friendly for some who need assistance or who simply prefer larger space
  • Complimentary U-Pick Organic Garden
  • 8 additional 50-amp service sites
  • Complimentary Kansas coffee or tea
  • Agility equipment in the dog run to give them a good workout after being on the road all day
  • A bench outside the dog run for your comfort as your 4-legged friend romps around
  • Baggies outside the dog run so you don’t accidentally get caught without the means to clean it up
  • High quality leather products in the store (a new item for ’09)
  • see 4/29 update down below
  • Youth-size Monster Basketball
  • The Rec & Relaxation Sunflower Barn, open every evening for your enjoyment
  • Darts, puzzles, card tables. ladderball, and bean bag toss in the Rec & Relaxation Sunflower Barn
  • Recycling program for your plastics, aluminum, and glass
  • A new obstacle added (and an old one removed) to our 18-hole miniature golf course
  • Additional office & store staff
  • A geocache somewhere on the property

With the GuestRated program, we have been surveying our guests for 4 years now. We’ve read your comments and suggestions, and every year we strive to add more of your ideas to our programs. For our 2008 camping season we received the “A” Rated Award by GuestRated (see another discussion in our blog). We really do read our survey responses!

Reservations have been flooding in, and it’s looking like we’ll be serving many new guests this year, as well as a large number of returning guests.

If your travels have you driving across I-70 or up or down US-83, please give us a try! You can reserve your site online, and for a limited time we are offering a super special for our online reservations! Check it out at http://www.HighPlainsCamping.com

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a lot of details to finish up before Memorial Day arrives! Now that I’ve published this list, it would be awful if some of it wasn’ t fully in place as promised. My paint can awaits me!

Here’s to a terrific 2009 camping season! Safe travels to all. I hope to see you here one evening.

You can see pictures of some of this on our web page (which we’ll more fully update very soon), elsewhere in this blog, and on flickr at http://www.flickr.com/HighPlainsCamping

4/29/09 Update:  I’ll create a new blog entry to discuss pet supplies, but since this discussion revolves around all that’s been added for 2009, it’s only fair to mention it here as well.

We are now stocking lots of pet supplies for the traveling 4-legged companions. Come see our new selection, due to arrive the first week of May.

Stay tuned for a new discussion, with photos, once these items are on display!
